Tangled Up Together (TUT) August 7, 2021

$15.00

Tangled Up Together is a monthly class or mini workshop where we’ll create beautiful Zentangle® inspired art, learn and explore new tangles, or practice familiar ones. And just as important, we’ll take some time for ourselves to relax and do something you’ll enjoy. I’ll provide the monthly inspiration and we’ll gather online via Zoom for friendship and lots of fun! I happen to adore the amazing community of artists that I’m blessed to call my students and friends.

You can usually draw the projects in black and white, classic Zentangle Method style, or you can add color with your favorite medium! You’ll see sample projects using colored pencil, gel pens, and watercolor. I do love watercolor so you can expect to see me demo lots of watercolor in these Tangled Up Together workshops!

Back to watercolor in August! I'll be Peerless Watercolors and I’ll show you how to shade with brush pens, I’ll use Tombow pens. Here Comes the Sun is our prompt for August, And our design makes for a pretty cool MYsaic!

COST: $15 USD per person

WHAT'S INCLUDED: 1-1/2 hours of instruction and play.

PREREQUISITE: NONE!

Although it’s always a benefit to have completed a basic or introductory level Zentangle class prior to any Zentangle or Zentangle Inspired Art (ZIA) class, I encourage you to jump in even if you’ve never taken a class before! And, it doesn’t really matter how young you are; in general, if you can hold a pen and draw the letters i, s, c, & o you can do this! If you don’t believe me, I dare you to try it!

Here is a list of materials and tools you’ll need for class, and of course you can use whatever you like too!

HOMEWORK: Because 90 minutes goes by so very fast, please add color to the background of your tile and be sure it’s dry before class begins. I used liquid watercolors; you can use whatever you have. If you prefer, you can draw first and then add the color. Remember there’s no wrong way to do this. I will caution you that some paints and other mediums, including sparkly watercolors, can damage your delicate Micron nibs. Test first to be sure you don’t destroy your pen!

TOOLS & MATERIALS: For Tangled Up Together (TUT) August 7, 2021

  • 2 - 4 white 3.5” square Zentangle tiles (or paper cut to 3.5” squares, or a larger piece of paper or a journal with 3.5” squares drawn on it. – note that if you want to add watercolor to your art, you will want watercolor or mixed-media paper)
  • 1 Black Sakura Micron PN pen (or any black pen - permanent ink - not water-soluble ink is preferred. It can even be a different color!)
  • Brush pens for shading (or your favorite medium for color: colored pencils, watercolor pencils, more watercolor, etc.) I’ll be using a yellow and an orange (colors of the sun). Use any colors you like, maybe even try red!
  • White Gel pen
  • White Chalk pencil
  • paper for practice (I find it's sometimes a good idea to play with a new tangle on a bit of paper before you commit to drawing on the tile. This is optional)
  • If you want to do this project in B&W, you’ll also want
    • pencil
    • tortillions  (for graphite and 1 for each color if you are using chalk pencils)
