Learn foundational skills with Introduction to the Zentangle Method. This class is the starting point for many and is part of a series of beginner classes. This series of classes will prepare you for more complex classes in the Beyond the Basics series of classes where you will continue to master your foundational skills as well as Zentangle Inspired Art (ZIA) classes and workshops. It is also a wonderful refresher that can bring you back to the basics in order to move your practice forward.
Why practice the Zentangle Method?
Today’s accelerating technology can be overwhelming! Sometimes you just need to slow down, unplug, and relax. This is where The Zentangle Method comes in. Maria Thomas and Rick Roberts, the founders of Zentangle, define it as “…an easy to learn, relaxing, and fun way to create beautiful images by drawing structured patterns.”
If you can draw a dot, a line, an S, a C, and a circle (icso) you have all the skills you need to practice the Zentangle Method. It is that simple! Zentangle was created by Rick Roberts and Maria Thomas and is enjoyed all over the world across a wide range of skills, interests and ages.
The focus is on the process, not the outcome. The Zentangle Method is a practice (think Yoga or meditation), and it is a tool to increase mindfulness, improve focus and creativity, relieve stress, inspire problem solving and new ideas, and so much more. I've found with my practice and my teaching that developing a practice of drawing with the Zentangle Method can bring one whatever one wants or needs. Are you looking for mindfulness? Stress relief? More patience? More creativity? The list is endless.
Zentangle is a practice that is truly about the journey more than the destination. Your journey is one of focus and creativity. Your destination is both an increased sense of well-being and a beautiful image created from structured patterns. The Zentangle Method can also be:
* Zoom provides a video conferencing platform that you will need for class. It's free and easy to use! You can find more information at zoom.us
Note: No materials are provided. You can purchase Zentangle supplies at Zentangle.com. Please allow as much time as possible for shipping, preferably a min of 10 days before class!
I'm an advocate of using what you have! No special materials are required for this class other than paper, a pen, a pencil, and a tortillion. You can even get by without a tortillion for blending the graphite!) For paper you can use what you have, just keep the size small (3.5" to 4" square) OR just draw a square about that size on a larger piece of paper. Any pen will do, although I prefer to begin with black, and any pencil will do.
