You ARE creative. Let me inspire you!
Spring is in the air! I love this time of year and I wanted to make a card that fit the season! We have been planting our flowers and I’ve noticed that the butterflies are enjoying them. There is nothing that says Spring like butterflies!
I haven’t used my Paper Smooches (PS) Flap Happy stamp set yet and I have the Butterflies 1, Butterflies 2, and Butterflies 3 die sets to go along with it. It just so happens that this week’s Paper Smooches Sparks Challenge is…you guessed it; anything with Butterflies! What a perfect challenge.
I wanted to do something a little different so I got out my old book pages and some decorative tape. I put some strips of tape on the book pages and using the dies, I cut the butterflies so that each butterfly had a bit of tape on it. Then I stamped over the cut outs. Because the tape has a coating, it took awhile for the ink to dry so I let the ink dry overnight.
I didn’t have a design in mind yet, I just knew I wanted to use butterflies. So I went to some of my favorite sketch challenge blogs and found one on the Retro Sketches site that I liked for this project. Here is the sketch:
As you can see, I did not use the sketch exactly, but that is what I love about sketches; sometimes they are a just a “Spring” board that I can use for inspiration. (Get it – Spring board! LOL! I know, too corny right?!) I used the PS Flag Tags dies to work with the sketch. Because I used patterned paper that was a little “busy”, the butterflies were getting lost so I cut some butterfly shapes out of more solid color patterned paper and used them under the book page butterflies, like a shadow, hoping it would help them to stand out more. This also allowed me to curl the wings on the book page butterflies and then I attached them with a brad to the card. I curled the ends of the flag tags too. I am pleased with the result. I hope you like them too!
To make this cute card I used Paper Smooches Flap Happy stamp set, Butterflies 1, Butterflies 2, Butterflies 3, and Flag Tags dies; Paper Smooches Gently Seasonedstamp set for the sentiment. My Mind’s Eye Lost & Found 3 Oliver patterned paper and decorative tape; black Ranger Archival Ink, Stampin’ Up small oval punch, and Bazzil brads.
