Mid Century Modern Zentangle

I love Mid Century Modern designs! You may have seen my series of Mid-Century Modern Holiday Trees on my YouTube Channel. This past year I fell in love with Mid-Century Modern design, or Mid Mod for short.  I’ve always been drawn to it, maybe because I’m a Mid-Century gal myself. Yep, that's me in my mother's arms.

This year I began researching this era in art history. You see, I studied art history in college, and I loved it! But for some reason we never managed to cover much modern art history. There’s so much to cover and it’s growing all the time. That’s the thing about history!

Learning about the Mid-Century Modern movement was a joy for me! Did you know that the term “Mid-Century Modern” was only found in print once during the mid-century? It was a reference to a furniture line. Some even credit the furniture industry for the Mid-Century design movement. Another big take away for me was that there is a LOT of controversy over when it began. I think it’s kinda silly to argue over such a thing. I’d rather focus on the design elements and how much fun Mid Mod art is! Have you seen the fun designs from the 1940s through the 1970s? The fun, colorful 1950s and groovy 1960 designs are some of my favs!

I even deconstructed a tangle I call MIMO. I tried to check to see if it had already been deconstructed. I found nothing BUT there are so many tangles out there now, it’s almost impossible to be certain. And in the end, I don’t think it really matters. MIMO is representative of the Mid Mod style and can be used as reticula for fragments and tangles. I hope you give it a try and enjoy the process!

I am developing a series of classes all combining Mid Mod design and Zentangle. Some will be shorter classes available on my YouTube channel, and others will be found in my web shop. These are all Zentangle Inspired Art, or ZIA classes, and I love to add color! Here's just a hint at what's in the works.
